Manner of Aelbert Jacobsz. Cuyp, Dutch, mid 18th century- An Italianate evening wooded landscape with animals, a shepherd playing the flute, and a figure in repose; oil on panel, 28.7 x 36.5 cm., (unframed). Provenance: Private Collection, UK. Note: Born in Dordrecht, Cuyp was an enormously influential landscape painter. His work was greatly admired in Britain from the 18th century onwards, and had an impact on artists including Richard Wilson (1714-1782), Thomas Gainsborough (1727-1788), John Constable (1776-1837) and J.M.W. Turner (1775-1851).
