LIDDED TANKARD WITH AMORETTES PLAYING MUSIC. Halle an der Saale. Date: Around 1670. Maker/Designer: Presumably Michael Schneider. Technique: Partially gilt silver with gilt interior. Description: Vaulted foot with embossed and chased blossoms and leaves. On the cylindric wall circumferential depictions of cheerfully playing cupids sitting on forest floor. Between them flowers, birds and flying butterflies. The decor of the hinged lid corresponds to the decor of the foot and is complimented by a floral knob. The handle with forked thumb rest, pearl ornament and shield. Weight: Ca. 554g. Measurement: Height 20cm. Mark: On lid and rim of the foot: Inspection mark Halle 17th century. (Rosenberg no.2303), maker's mark 'MS' probably for Michael Schneider ( after 1659).
