Vithoba is a form of Krishna worped particularly in the western Deccan. The brick, here shown as the square paving tile the deity is standing on, along with his distinctive static posture, is a reference to a story in the life of Krishna, when he was told by Pundalika to wait on a brick while Pundalika attended to his aged parents.
