鼎式爐造型為仿古青銅器造型，據史料記載，三代古銅器中，鼎的造型隨著時代的變化而異，商代前期多為圓腹尖足，商代後期和西周早期多圓腹柱足，西周中期鼎亦以圓腹柱足為多，但垂腹較寬，西周晚期，半球形腹帶馬蹄足。相比較而言，此鼎式爐應是以西周中期鼎式爐為原型，在清代仿古之風盛行的影響下，結合了本朝風格，頸部雙圈束頸的處理以及紋飾的變化等，錦地紋上浮雕出戟鳳鳥紋，紋飾相較而言顯得立體突出，銅鎏金的處理方式亦使得鼎式爐具有了華麗的特點，配以紅木天地蓋更為此爐錦上添花，屬清一代仿古之佳作。
