款识：虎溪三笑。辛未暮春白龙山人写。|钤印：「王震大利」、「一亭」、「白龙山人」 |虎溪三笑是自宋元以来流行的画题，取自东晋慧的故事。慧是中国襌宗初袓，驻锡庐山东林寺，戒律严明，曾与居士刘遗民结社念佛，共期西方净土。相传东晋高僧慧曾住庐山西北山麓的东林寺，以寺前的虎溪为界，立一誓约：“影不出户，迹不入俗，送客不过虎溪桥。”一日彭泽令陶潜（陶渊明）、道士陆修静来访，三人相谈甚欢，依依不舍，送出一程又一程，忽听山崖密林中虎啸风生，恍然回神发现早已越过虎溪界限，三人相视大笑，执礼作别。后人于此建三笑亭。
