A RARE FAMILLE ROSE FIGURE OF A PAINTER, 19TH CENTURY China. Well modeled seated on a rocky outpost, one leg crossed over the other, wearing colorful robes decorated with floral designs, holding in one hand a scroll painting depicting a mountain landscape with trees below lines of calligraphy, and a paintbrush in the other.

Provenance: London trade, United Kingdom.
Condition: Good condition with some wear and minor firing irregularities, the base with small chips and possibly some glaze touchups, the hands with minor old repairs.

Expert's note: The present famille rose figure of a female painter is extremely rare, with depictions of deities, immortals, or court members being much more common. Note the detailed execution of the brush and the scroll painting depicting a mountain landscape with trees below lines of calligraphy.
