AN IRON-RED-DECORATED 'DRAGON' BRUSHWASHER, 19TH CENTURY China. Finely potted, the shallow rounded sides rising to an incurved rim painted in shades of iron-red as well as black and white enamels, the center depicting a fierce sinuous five-clawed dragon grasping the flaming pearl amid scrolling clouds, the white claws and teeth slightly raised, the rim decorated with a band of six bats amid swirling clouds.

Provenance: From a private estate in Oxford, United Kingdom.
Condition: Good condition with minor wear and manufacturing flaws, light surface scratches.
