A lozengiform horse harness pendant with integral suspension loop, quartered, top left bearing a heraldic designprising an indistinct device and ten roundels in the field, the device linked to the la Zouche family. See Woodcock and Flower, Dictionary of British Arms 4, Society of antiquaries, 22014, pp.350-352, for details of the arms. See British Museum's Portable Antiquities Scheme, report number DENO-CFF76E (this pendant). 7.2 grams, 37 mm (1 1/2 in.). Found near Granby, Nottinghamshire, UK, by Ken Burrell whilst searching with a metal detector on Tuesday 1st December 2015. Apanied by a copy of the British Museum's Portable Antiquities Scheme report number DENO-CFF76E. The family is linked to and takes its name from the market town of Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire, the settlement listed in the Domesday survey of 1086; Alan la Zouche, 1st Baron (1267-1314 A.D.) died without male issue and the barony fell into abeyance among his daughters; he served with Edward I in the wars with Scotland and attended the coronation of Edward II.
