A pair of artefactsprising: a fragment of a triangular fibula, the surviving arm decorated with grooves, the catch in the form of an eagle's head; the upper part of an arched fibula, both arms decorated with idols wearing a plumed cap, the catch in the form of a hand. Cf. Muscarella, O., Ancient Safety Pins, Their Function and Significance in Expedition, 1964, 6, pp. 3440, fig. p.37; Muscarella, O.W., Bronze and Iron Ancient Near Eastern Artifacts in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, 1988, p.209, figs.317, 502. 24.9 grams total, 36-46 mm (1 3/8 - 1 3/4 in.). Old French collection of Dr Delattre, who collected principally prehistoric objects but also ancient bronzes, Natural History and curiosity around the world. Property of a French collector. Many of the catches of these fibulae were made in the form of human hands. Similar specimens were found in Nippur in 1890, and show a great affinity with the Phrygian typologies.
