Mid 3rd millennium B.C. A tapering rectangular-section spearhead with rectangular-section tang. Cf. Gernez, G., Larmament en métal au Proche et Moyen-Orient: des origines a 1750 av. J.C., Paris, 2007, , subtype L 1.A, for the type. 146 grams, 28.5 cm (11 1/4 in.). Acquired before 1972. Formerly with a central London gallery. Property of a London gentleman. The type belongs to the category of the bipartite pikes with bevelled tang. This type is characterised by a very simple morphology: the active part is long and pointed, of square-section and the tang, as a continuity of the blade, is more refined. It also is of square-section and terminates in a double-bevelled pointed end, which was inserted into a wooden shaft of which traces sometimes remain in the corrosion.
