A late 19th / early 20th century turned mahogany and antelope horn mounted coat stand, the horns mounted with brass ball finials on a turned column set on a quadripartite base, 205cm high Note: Judging by the size and curvature of the horns this piece is likely made from Blackbuck, also known as the Indian antelope, (Antilope cervicapra). This species is currently on CITES Appendix III [Antilope cervicapra (Nepal, Pakistan)] for current populations only from Nepal and Pakistan. Late Victorian and Edwardian examples of antelope horn coat stands were known to be made as hunting trophies from the Raj by the larger Indian taxidermy firms such as Van Ingen & Van Ingen, and their English counterparts such as Rowland Ward. Status: CITES Annex A Article 10 Exempt - Worked specimen before 3 March 1947
