Huang Jun (1914-2011), originally from Tamsui, Taiwan, was a famed realistic figure painter. He exceled in painting landscapes, flowers and birds, and traditional architecture. The lady in the painting is Xiangling, the first female character to appear in Cao Xueqin's classical novel Dream of the Red Chamber. In this painting, Xiangling is sitting by the window, looking at the moon and smiling, lost in thought, with stationary placed next to her. Huang Jun painted several works with Dream of the Red Chamber as the subject matter. He used a realistic style to depict well-known historical figures and legends and integrated them with poetry. In his works, literature and picture are inseparable, and the two complement each other perfectly.

款識：孤燈挑盡未成眠， 深鎖重門一院煙， 吟到月明清露冷 ，此生只合伴嬋娟 。 香菱詠月 甲子初夏寫紅樓故寶於燕京 黃均並題 鈐印：黃均（白）六宜樓（朱） 黃均（1914-2011年），號懋忱，祖籍臺灣淡水，著名工筆人物畫畫家。 黃均善山水、花鳥和界畫 (畫古建築的繪畫，用界尺畫出，由此得名) ，皆有獨特風格。 此畫中女子爲香菱（甄英蓮），是曹雪芹所著古典小說《紅樓夢》中第一個登場的女性人物。畫中女子坐落於窗臺邊，淺笑望月，筆墨紙硯置於身邊，似是心中有所期。黃均曾創作了多件關於紅樓題材的作品，他運用工筆重彩技藝，描繪人們所熟悉的歷史人物和傳說故事，並配以相應詩詞，極具個人風格。他的作品中，文學和繪畫是不可分割的，詩中有畫，畫中有詩，二者相得益彰。
