A RARE LACQUER BUNKO (DOCUMENTS BOX) WITH INTEGRATED SUZURIBAKO (WRITING BOX)Japan, 19th century, Edo period (1615-1868)Of rectangular form, decorated in gold and silver hiramaki and takamaki-e, depicting Tekkai Sennin holding a staff while standing on a rocky outpost amidst crashing waves, a fan tucked into his robe, all against a lustrous roiro ground. The edges finished in gold fundame and with evenly spaced floral sprays. The interior lacquered in nashiji and fitted with a removable compartment including a suzuri (ink stone) and a leaf-shaped suiteki (water dropper).SIZE 28.3 x 22 x 13 cmWEIGHT 1,520 gCondition: Very good condition with little wear, surface scratches, chips and dents, and a few cracks to the lacquer.
