吴作人（1908年11月3日-1997年4月9日），男，安徽宣城泾县人，生于江苏苏州，1926年入苏州工业专科学校建筑系，1927年至1930年初先后就读于上海艺术大学、南国艺术学院美术系及南京中央大学艺术系，从师徐悲鸿先生，并参加南国革新运动。早年攻素描、油画，晚年后专攻国画，境界开阔，寓意深远，以凝练而准确的形象融会着中西艺术，是继徐悲鸿之后中国美术界的又一领军人物。
此幅《鱼》寥寥数笔，神完气足，画面干净、灵动，画中的金鱼不仅有动态之美，更具体形之美，似动似静，亦静亦动，神韵动人，悠然自得，令人拍案叫绝。
