Ca. 619-906 AD A large sancai glazed pottery example depicting the earth spirit or guardian figure, seated on an integral raised base. A winged mythical feline having a multi-horned, centrally flame crested head, fanged open mouth and hooved feet. Sancai glazed in green, caramel and white. Encrusted surface on the interior of the base. Tip of right horn reattached, tip of left horn restored and three right wing feather tips restored and one reattached, restoration to the center rear portion of head, overall exc. condition.
