Ca. 500 BC A lovely, early black-figure Attic pottery amphora of a classic form, with a bulbous body upon a raised, round foot, a flared rim at the top and gracefully curved twin bifurcated handles adjoining shoulder to neck; all hand painted via the black figure technique with intriguing iconography featuring a satyr flanked by two maenads. On the opposite side, Hermes is depicted wearing petasos and stylised wings on his feet; in the centre a figure of a female wearing a long illustrious tunic, with her hands raised above her head. On the right hand side, a figure with athletic feet, possibly of Eros. The amphora is decorative with palmette leaves and intricate design motifs adorn the field and areas between the figures; a band of rays above the foot, details in added red.
