作者简介:陈垣 (1880-1971)中国历史学家、教育家。字援。广东新会人。生于1880年(清光绪六年)。自幼好学，无师承，靠自学闯出一条广深的治学途径。在宗教史、元史、考据学、校勘学等方面，著作等身，成绩卓著，受到国内外学者的推重。他重视教育事业，在大学和科研机构任教四五十年间，对广大青年学者热心传授，影响深远，造就了众多的人才。他曾任国立北京大学、北平师范大学、辅仁大学的教授、导师。1926-1952年，任辅仁大学校长；1952-1971年，任北京师范大学校长。1949年以前，他还担任过京师图书馆馆长、故宫博物院图书馆馆长。1949年后，任中国科学院历史研究所第二所所长。历任第一、二、三届全国人民代表大会常务委员会委员。
