此虫罐选“三河刘”葫芦，侈口束腰，圆腹底。口沿原配镶嵌紫檀，盖中心镶嵌乌木镂空雕山水庭院图景。“三河刘”指的是咸丰年间河北三河县刘显庭所种的葫芦，这些大都在火沙地上种植，厚薄合适，制成虫罐荫皮搭叶、瓷皮糖胎、发音宽厚，深受玩虫者的喜爱。“三河刘”从咸丰年间至今，盛名兴旺，现今所见的许多珍贵藏品都是三河刘所范制。收藏大家王世襄言：“三河刘一律光素，未见亦未闻范有花纹者。自晚清以来，身价最高。”可见，三河刘制作的葫芦，无论在当时还是现代都难得一寻，千金难买。
