A SOAPSTONE ‘BUDDHIST LION’ SEAL
China, Qing Dynasty (1644-1912). The Buddhist lion turning his head backwards towards the cub. A four-character inscription to one side ‘Wu Shen Yao Ke’. The seal face incised as well. The soapstone material with an appealing color play of red, yellow and maroon hues.
Condition: Very good condition with minor wear, nibbling and light surface scratches.
Provenance: From an Austrian private collection, according to the current owner acquired from Galerie Asboth, Vienna, Austria during a scholar’s items exhibition in 1995.
