1964年作此件拍品创作年代为1964年，是杨先生被不幸错划成“右派”（1957年底）的第8个年头，也是“文革”发生前三年间。政治社会的变化及不公平的待遇，给先生的身心带来极大伤害，但从未阻碍和影响他的创作激情，在这个时期，杨老师创作出很多精湛、生动感人、反映社会现状和宣扬时代精神的作品，此件拍品亦是：画面结构准确，描绘细致，主题取材于1955年竣工的厦门海堤建设工程，反映了当时社会的面貌、弘扬了“爱国奉献、拼搏创新、移山填海”的海堤精神，具有鲜明的时代烙印。
