此器仿上古青铜器之造型，由盖和器身两部分组成，通体满工，炫巧耀奇，顶部圆雕龙钮，灵动张扬气势非凡。器身浮雕对称兽纹，器腹出戟，四侧镂雕饕餮活环、圆目、大鼻、大嘴、眉尾及两腮均向两侧延伸出卷曲的云纹，于器沿之上，盒底以四兽首立足，并拨划宫廷造办处制样＂嘉庆年制＂四字阴文款。
该器以上好碧玉制成，色泽温润，细腻苍翠，少了青铜器的沧桑，多了玉器的清莹灵秀，繁缛的花纹配以厚重的胎体，亦显得深邃神秘，凝重大方，神韵天成。
由于乾隆帝爱玉成痴，乾隆四十五年，乾隆皇帝曾亲自颁旨查禁碧玉的民间流通，从此碧玉不再是民间流通的商品，而成为官方尤其是宫廷的垄断性资源，宫廷成为玛纳斯碧玉唯一的合法利用者。此件器物无论玉质器皿种类，均属清宫陈设极罕珍品。
