华严三圣，即华严经所指华藏世界之三位圣者，主尊为毗卢遮那佛;毗卢遮那佛最重要的助手文殊普贤菩萨为左右侍俸着。经中讲，《妙法莲华经》是由文殊传授而来，由普贤传授下去(法华经·普贤菩萨劝发品)，文殊、普贤二菩萨协助释迦佛弘宣此经，故供奉释迦牟尼的寺庙大殿中，文殊、普贤常立于佛陀两侧，成为佛的左右胁侍，这是根据《法华经》塑的。 在华严经中，文殊菩萨以智、普贤菩萨以行辅佐释迦牟尼佛的法身毗卢遮那佛(密宗言大日如来)。故"释迦三尊"又被称为"华严三圣"。
