About the artist: Alexey Alexandrovich Rybnikov was born on January 30 (February 11 in a new style) in 1887 in Ranenburg, Ryazan province, now Ryazhsk, Ryazan region. The brother of the scientist and economist Alexander Rybnikov. His father, the tradesman Alexander Nikolaevich Rybnikov (1844-1913), led the grain trade. Mother, Praskovya Sergeevna (1853-1913), came from a family of noble merchants Schukin. After graduating from high school in 1905, Alexei studied at the Kharkov School of Painting and Drawing, which he graduated in 1909. Then, after moving to Moscow in 1910, he studied in the studio of F.I. Rerberg (1912-1914). In the years 1915-1916. Rybnikov took lessons from one of the founders of the Russian avant-garde Mikhail Fedorovich Larionov (1881-1964). It was this artist who influenced Rybnikov’s early work - he painted several paintings in the style of Larion's primitivism and rayism: “Northern Lights” (1917), “Apocalypse” (1918 - both paintings in the museum of Nukus), “ Idyll ”(1920s, private collection), etc. In 1918, Rybnikov’s first personal exhibition was held in Moscow and one of his paintings“ Poloter ”(1913) was acquired by the Tretyakov Gallery.
