Abu al-Hassan al-Sharif al-Radi, Nahj al-Balagha (The Peak of Eloquence), in Arabic, decorated manuscript on paper [probably Afghanistan, mid-nineteenth century] 253 leaves (plus one endleaf at front and two at back), two parts in one volume, second part incomplete at end, single column, 15 lines black naskh, some key words and phrases in red, a few ownership seals and marginal annotations, later ownership notes to endleaf copied in Herat in 1243 AH, printed label to pastedown, a few gatherings and some bifolia loose, 190 by 160mm.; modern blind-stamped morocco with flap, labels pasted to spine, else good condition From the Mohamed Makiya collection, their 57/100. Nahj al-Balagha is a popular collection of hadith, sermons, letters and tasfirs, which was compiled in the tenth century by Sharif Razi. The work is considered to be one of the major pieces of Shi'ite Muslim literature and is particularly known for its eloquent content, that attributed to Imam Ali.
