A Safavid large tinned copper bowl, Iran, late 16th or 17th century, with various calligraphic cartouches, 36cm wide x 18cm high Provenance: Purchased by the late J.B. da Silva (1918-2003) from Claude Reed, Bridgnorth, Shropshire, 31st April 1985, for £100.00, and by family descent. No receipt but itemised in collection notes. Inscriptions translate approximately as: 'O you, who has understanding in the world, Endeavour to be in the company of those of taste Lift the cover from the bowl So that [your] companion may eat the food.'
