A Victorian hardstone cameo ring, the oval hardstone panel carved with Cupid holding a butterfly over a flaming torch, to trifurcated shoulders, 2.2cm long, finger size L 1/2, 4.5g gross The butterfly symbolises Psyche, Cupid's lover, and the soul. The butterfly being imprisoned and burnt by Cupid is an allegory of spiritual torment. Condition Report: The oval panel is damaged and cracked to one side, but the panel is currently still together. There is a chip to cupid's wing tip by the crack. The shank has been resized. Possibly a copy of a Wedgwood panel, designed circa 1770 Condition Report Disclaimer
