Description

A George II walnut and pine chest on chest, circa 1733, 176cm high, 102cm wide, 56cm deep Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches, abrasions consistent with age and use Signs of old woodworm throughout Dirt and discolouration to handles, the gilt largely worn, The handles appear to be original. Old splits and cracks, chips and losses, chips and losses to veneers and inlays, these appear to be missing and elements to repair would need to be sourced by the purchaser The cornice has broken and is partially detached to one side - it was balanced and placed on for the photograph but will need some level of restoration before use in a domestic setting, there are signs of old glue here from previous attempts. As catalogued the sides are stained pine the drawer fronts are pine lined, the rest of the drawer is oak. The pine sides sometimes found on pieces of this date, it was more cost-effective than walnut - especially if designed to be placed in a recess and not seen. Please note there is warping to the drawer fronts and linings and the fronts of these protrude and do not fit snuggly in the carcass, this will need some professional attention to try to rectify if wished by the purchaser. Dreweatts can give no estimates or quotes for this kind of work. Polished and with areas of old stain throughout leading to colour variation The feet appear original, there are some blocks missing to the interiors, and there are chips and losses also signs of woodworm and other losses - they are consistent with the condition of the piece as a whole Please refer to additional images for visual reference to condition Condition Report Disclaimer
