Gene Kloss (American, 1903-1996) Two Works: Deer Dance, edition 46/75 and Keresan Dancers, edition 11/50 etching each signed Gene Kloss (lower right) and titled and numbered (lower left) 13 x 18 and 14 x 11 inches Provenance: Donated from a Private Collection Gene Kloss spent several months each year in Taos, drawing, painting, and pulling prints of the pueblo ceremonies she witnessed. The Deer Dance is a celebration of the promise of renewal, light against darkness- which you see in this etching- that takes place near the winter solstice. Keresan refers to the people, culture, and language of seven of the Pueblos, including Laguna, Acoma, and Cochiti. Kloss's etching centers on a woman dancing, but the etching as a whole is a transmission of energy, pageantry, mystery, and continuity. -James D. Balestrieri Property being sold to benefit the Mission and Vision of the Couse-Sharp Historic Site, Taos, New Mexico
