3rd-2nd millennium BC. A limestone cylinder seal, drilled vertically for suspension, accompanied by a museum-quality impression and by a copy of a typed and signed scholarly note by W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which states: 'Cylinder seal of green stone. A contest scene is shown of four creatures, all on their hind legs. On the middle are two rearing lions with bodies crossing, each attacking a horned animal with head turned backwards. A tree forms a terminal. This is a seal in the Akkadian style from west Iran, northern Mesopotamia or Anatolia. It is well engraved and in very good state of preservation.' 8 grams, 27mm (1"). The Signo collection, the property of a West London businessman, formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s; item number 6801; academically researched and catalogued by the late Professor Lambert in the early 1990s; accompanied by a copy of a typed and signed scholarly note by Professor Wilfrid George Lambert.
