1st millennium BC. A small copper-alloy Pazuzu head with bulging eyes, menacing brow and full beard, grinning and sticking tongue out; accompanied by a copy of a handwritten and signed scholarly note issued by the late W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which states: 'Pazuzu head amulet of metal (bronze or silver) flat back, with loop at top, the face in very deep relief and features exaggerated. Mesopotamia, c. 900-400 B.C. Assyrian or Babylonian. Condition very good.' 3.6 grams, 18mm (3/4"). Ex Important Mayfair collection by descent, 1970-1999; accompanied by a copy of a scholarly note by Professor W Lambert.[No Reserve]
