杯以青玉为材，色厚重均匀，质细腻油润，为业内常说的一细青海青玉料。杯子为方斗形，口沿微撇，稍鼓腹，近足处采用圆角渐收，方形圈足，四面相接处棱角圆润。 杯身内里两面对称饰以鱼纹，鱼头及鱼身以高浮雕技法为之，颇富立体之感，鱼尾则以压地技法浅浅雕琢，在玉杯之上形成薄胎效果，透光处可见鱼尾的绝美效果。当使用此杯，茶水倒入时，两条鱼好似在茶水中畅游，颇为别致。 瓷器中的方斗杯流行于明代嘉靖时期，因形似方斗而得名。古时候制作方形器不似圆器可利用拉坯技术，只能泥塑成型，制作工艺复杂，且受技术局限大多器型不规整，但这件玉雕方斗杯器型却圆润纯熟。
