CHALICE MADE OF GILT COPPER, COLOURED ENAMEL, PARTIALLY GILT SILVER AND GLASS. Toskana. Date: Last quarter of the 14th century. Maker/Designer: Possibly Siena. Technique: Gilt copper, coloured enamel, partially gilt silver, colourless glass. Description: Wide twelve-foil foot, narrow cross frieze on the frame. The upper side of the foot with engraved decoration reminiscent of tracery. Six-foil rising from the middle and merging into the correspondingly shaped shaft via profiled cornice. Shaft with depiction of birds under arched architecture in champlevé technique. On the sturdy modus with leaf-relief, six silver rotuli under glass with depictions of the crucifixion showing the lance of Longinus, the Virgin Mary, St. Peter and presumably St. Paul. On opposing sides two crosses on golden ground, made of woven silver thread. The small bowl basket with ornamental engravings in round medallions, upwards ending in smaller and larger pikes. Smooth, conically rising bowl with gilt interior. On the underside of the foot an engraved maltese cross and coat of arms with three hills and three feathers. Measurement: Height 21cm. Beschreibung: Breiter zwölfpassiger Fuß, auf der Zarge schmales Kreuzfries, die Fußoberseite mit an Maßwerk erinnerndem Gravurdekor. Mittig sechspassig ansteigend und über Gesimsprofile in entsprechenden Schaft übergehend. Dieser mit Vogeldarstellung unter Bogenarchitektur in Champlevé-Technik. Auf dem kräftigen Nodus mit Blattrelief, umlaufend sechs Silber-Rotuli unter Glasabdeckung. Diese mit Darstellungen der Kreuzigung mit dem Lanzenstich des Longinus, Maria, Hl. Petrus, vermutlich dem Hl. Paulus sowie gegenständig zwei aus Silberfäden gewobenen Kreuzen auf Goldgrund. Der kleine Kuppakorb mit gravierten Ornamenten in runden Medaillons, nach oben alternierenden in größeren und kleineren Spitzen endend. Glatte, konisch ansteigende Kuppa mit Innenvergoldung. Auf der Fußunterseite ein graviertes Malteserkreuz sowie Wappen mit drei Hügeln und drei Federn. Maße: Höhe 21cm. Ohne erkennbare Marken.
