磁州窑是中国古代北方最大的民窑体系，也是著名的民间瓷窑，窑址在今河北省邯郸市彭城镇和磁县的观台镇一带，磁县宋代属磁州，故名。据考察，磁州窑创烧于北宋中期，并达到鼎盛，南宋、辽金元、明清仍继续烧制，烧造历史悠久。这件玉壶春瓶撇口细颈，垂腹圈足，胎体较薄，通体施酱釉，釉层匀润，发色呈柿红色，造型端庄秀美，酱釉又称柿色釉、紫金釉，是一种以铁为呈色剂的高温色釉，其釉料中含氧化铁和氧化亚铁在5%以上，属于黑釉的派生品，宋代是酱釉瓷器发展的黄金时期，南北各地瓷窑均有烧造，是中国传统的彩釉品种。
