2 Japanese katanas dating from the 20th century. Green grip katana guard (Tsuba) is decorated with a frog expelling water from its mouth circling the guard. The pommel and handle sleeve are of a water theme with a white stingray skin wrap. The Manuki was not inspected without the wrap. Black grip katana has a nautical octopus theme. The tsuba features an octopus with the tentacles creating the guard. The handle sleeve and pommel also depict an octopus, with black stingray skin wrap. Menuki was not inspected without the wrap. Both are sharp with a strong distinct hamon. Dimensions: Green katana- 40 3/4 inches long; 103.5 cm long. Blade- 28 inches long; 71.1 cm long. Guard- 9 1/2 inches diameter; 24.1 cm diameter. Black katana- 42 1/4 inches long; 107.3 cm long. Blade length- 27 1/2 inches long; 69.9 cm long. Guard- 10 inches diameter; 25.4 cm diameter. All measurements are approximate. Condition: Green handle: Some spots of rust on edge of blade. Sageo missing from scabbard. Black handle: Minor edge damage on two spots. Minor rust on spine and blade. Hammering damage on blade collar and blade top. Green patina on pommel and menuki. Missing Sageo mount from scabbard. Provenance: From a collection in Ashburn, Virginia.
