Measurements: 39.5in x28.125in x 22.75in Pair of Chinese Qing Dynasty Period, Zitan Foling horseshoe armchairs. Each chair has a having sweeping crest rail terminating in out swept hooks above rear posts and the gracefully curved splat carved to open wide arms chair. Beneath, the plain seat within the beaded, rectangular frame above shaped, beaded aprons and spandrels carved in the front with a conjoined leafy scroll, and spandrels on the sides and rear, the legs joined by stepped stretchers and the foot rest. Zitan is an extremely dense wood which sinks in water. It is a member of the rosewood family and is botanically classified in the Pterocarpus genus. The lumber is blackish-purple in hue, and its fibers are loaded with deep red pigments which have been used for dye throughout the ages. The entirety is encased in amazing relief carving which gives this box a captivating appearance. The zitan round armchairs shows smooth lustrous patina, dense hardwood with feathery fine grain.
