Four page hand written letter, United States Lines, S.S.America, 28th December 1946, to Gigi Richter. Moore discusses his first trip to America, and his retrospective exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, New York - 'I had enough money for the museum for excursions so I didn't need to call on your mother for dollars, my time got so full up from the very first day of arriving in New York, with people, my exhibition affairs (+ going to Boston, Washington, Rhinebeck, Philadelphia + finally Virginia for Christmas) that the morning I left at 7am for Virginia I asked Peter Gregory (who went over to New York from England with me and my publisher, he's head of Lund Humphries thought over the big book on my work)' Moore continues to write 'The most fantastic bit of all was the 'preview' evening of my exhibition - I don't really know what happened - there were 3000 people there I'm told - all I could see was a dense crowd of folk through which Nelson Rockefeller guided me steadily...'
