Late New Kingdom, 1550-1070 BC. A skilfully carved yellow jasper amulet depicting a vulture, the symbol of goddess Mut, standing on a rectangular base, large striated wings tucked against the feather-detailed body, bald head with incised detailing, fierce expression; loop to the back. See Museum of Fine Arts, Budapest, inventory no. 51.491, for a later example. 17.9 grams, 38mm (1 1/2"). Property of a London gentleman; previously in a Canadian private collection prior to 1985.
