AN UNUSUAL LOUIS PHILIPPE GILT BRONZE PIRATE GENRE MANTLE CLOCK, 1840s, crisply cast as a mustached pirate with long wavy hair beneath a capped helmet framing a stern expression, wearing an Araby style open short coat over traditional shirt above a sashed robe concealing twin pistolets and using his flintlock to steer, while leaning forward towards the exotic curled bow above a coiled rope and anchor before a small gunpowder keg, his small boat set against beautifully modeled crashing waves flanking a circular bronzed dial with Roman chapters and reticulated gilt-metal hands over twin key escapements, on a rectangular base centering a naval trophy mount of anchor, halberd and canon amidst berried laurel stems opposite acorn and oak leaf branches, within stylized acanthus leaf embellished corners over bound berried laurel detailed trim, raised on a conforming plinth with curled paterae and acanthus feet centering a stylized shell form pendant, reversing to an eight-day clockworks with silk string suspension, numbered "7-7" and "264," includes one pendulum, one winding key.
