AN ANTIQUE REPUBLIC OF TEXAS MAP, "Map of Texas," JOHN ARROWSMITH, LONDON, APRIL 17, 1841, hand-colored lithograph on paper, by John Arrowsmith, with seal of the Republic of Texas and General Land Office, "Recognized as an Independent State by Great Britain 16th Novr. 1840," with a L/L inset "Plan of Galveston Bay from a M.S.([sic] Master Survey)," and a L/R inset view of North America, with hachures showing topographical elevation, showing old wagon trails and roads, natural resources such as stone, cherries, timber, rich land, buffalo & elk, deer and antelope, and other valuable lands. 24 1/4" x 20 3/4" Note: One of the earliest printings of this map appeared in the 1844 printing of the London Atlas published by John Arrowsmith. "John Arrowsmith was the nephew of the cartographer and map publisher Aaron Arrowsmith the elder (1750–1823)...John was a founding member of the Royal Geographical Society (RGS) and a member of its council."
