A NAPOLEON III ORMOLU AND MARBLE "MADONNA DELLA SEDIA" MANTLE CLOCK, BY LEBRETON, ALENÇON, MID 19TH CENTURY, the nicely modeled and detailed figural group of Mary seated and warmly embracing the Christ child in her lap, while a youthful John the Baptist standing with his staff and recumbent lamb gazes at them from the side, on a stylized rockwork ground on a rectangular white marble body centering a white enamel ring dial with black Roman chapters surrounding a recessed panel with partially exposed works and gilt metal hands over twin key escapements, signed "LEBRETON A ALENÇON," set within a guilloché cast bezel and curling strapwork frame flanked by crouching putti, above a conforming Rococo Revival bronze plinth with beaded borders enclosing shaped panels of blossoming pendants and sinuous acanthus, flanking a window revealing the repoussé pendulum of a cherub walking a lion, raised on "C" scrolled rocaille suspending floral sprays, verso the clockworks stamped "ROLLIN À PARIS," and impressed pastille "MÉDAILLE D'ARGENT Vincenti & Cie," Height: 21 1/4" Width: 16 1/2" Depth: 5 3/4" Note: This figural grouping is based after an original painting titled "Madonna della Sedia" by the great Renaissance artist Raphael who completed it around 1514.
