LARGE PARLOR MIRROR,
Louis XV, Berne ca. 1750. In the style of Johann Friedrich Funk I.
Carved wood, in part pierced, and gilt.
H 144 cm, W 87 cm.
Minor losses.
Provenance:
- Old Swiss private collection.
Fine latticework between scroll-like rocailles can be found in the works of Johann Friedrich Funk I. from about 1750 to about 1770, and also in an identical manner on a mirror from the time around 1765/70, which was preserved at Jegenstorf Castle, on loan from a private collector. The very symmetric mirror on offer can probably be dated somewhat earlier, possibly around 1755-60. Cf. Hermann von Fischer, Fonck à Berne, Berne, 2000, p. 224, Fig. 413, for the mirror from Jegenstorf Castle.
