Description

IMPORTANT RELIEF WITH FEMALE DEITY RIDING ON A WOLF. Origin: Tibet. Date: 18th c. Technique: Copper bronze in Repoussé and fire gilt. Description: With her right hand the rider swings a sword over her head, in her left hand she holds a bowl of wishing jewels. She wears long robes and a small crown, her hair is tied high and behind her head shines a round aureole. The niche surrounding the deity shows various Buddha and Buddhist deities. Central above the female deity the teaching Buddha in dharmacakra mudra, below the four-armed Bodhisattva Shadakshari Lokeshvara. Both figures are flanked by the historical Buddha Shakyamuni. At eye level with the main figure there is the White Tara on the left and the Green Tara on the right. Below three mythical animals - ram, lion and elephant - arranged in pairs. The relief possibly formed part of a larger altarpiece in a temple. Measurement: Height 60cm, width 55cm, depth 5cm. Condition A/B. Technik: Kupferbronze in Repoussé und feuervergoldet. Beschreibung: Mit der rechten Hand schwingt die Reiterin ein Schwert über ihrem Kopf, in der linken hält sie eine Schale mit Wunschjuwelen. Sie trägt lange Gewänder und eine kleine Krone, ihr Haare sind hoch aufgesteckt und hinter ihrem Haupt erstrahlt eine kreisförmige Aureole. Die Nische, die die Gottheit umgibt, zeigt verschiedene Buddha und buddhistische Gottheiten. Zentral oberhalb der weiblichen Gottheit der lehrende Buddha in dharmacakra mudra, unterhalb der vierarmige Bodhisattva Shadakshari Lokeshvara. Beide Figuren werden vom historischen Buddha Shakyamuni flankiert. Auf Augenhöhe der Hauptfigur befinden sich links die Weiße und rechts die Grüne Tara. Unterhalb drei mythische Tiere - Widder, Löwe und Elefant - paarweise angeordnet. Das Relief war womöglich Teil eines größeren Altarbildes in einem Tempel. Maße: Höhe 60cm, Breite 55cm, Tiefe 5cm.
