Description

RARE SET OF FOUR THANGKA WITH EMANATIONS OF PADMASAMBHAVA (GURU RINPOCHE). Origin: Tibet. Date: 18th c. Technique: Pigments on fabric. Mounted as hanging scroll, mostly with curtain. Description: The paintings show four of the eight emanations of the great teacher: a) Pema Gyalpo (Lotus Prince, 1.), with a rattle drum in his hands, b) Nyima Oser (Sun Ray, 2.), dressed with a tiger skin as loincloth, c) Shakya Senge (King of the Shakya, 5.) in the form of the Buddha with alms bowl, d) Pema Jungne (Lotus Born, 7.), with the robes and headgear of the teacher. Each sitting on a lotus pedestal with the name inscribed in front in Tibetan. Measurement: Complete size each ca. 95 x 54 cm, each ca. 45 x 38cm. Seal: The paintings are consecrated on the back in Tibetan (Om, Ah, Hum). Some more labels on the back. Condition B. Browned, rubbed, brittle and with tears, traces of use. Provenance: -German private collection. Acquired 1981/82 at Schoettle Ostasiatica in Stuttgart. Datierung: 18. Jh. Technik: Pigmente auf grundiertem Gewebe. Als Hängerolle montiert, bis auf eines mit Vorhang. Beschreibung: Die Bilder zeigen folgende Verkörperungen des großen Lehrers: a) Pema Gyalpo (Lotosprinz, 1.), mit einer Rasseltrommel in Händen, b) Nyima Oser (Sonnenstrahl, 2.), bekleidet mit einem Tigerfell als Lendentuch, c) Shakya Senge (König der Shakya, 5.) in Form des Buddha mit Almosenschale, d) Pema Jungne (Lotosgeborener, 7.), mit den Gewändern und der Kopfbedeckung des Lehrers. Sie sitzen jeweils auf einem Lotossockel und davor sind ihre Bezeichnungen in Tibetisch zu finden. Maße: Gesamtmaß jeweils ca. 95x54 cm, Bildmaß jeweils ca. 45x38cm. Siegel: Die Thangka sind rückwärtig mit tibetischen Segenssilben (Om, Ah, Hum) konsekriert. Des Weiteren Inventaraufkleber. Zustand B. Gebräunt, berieben, brüchig und mit Rissen, Gebrauchsspuren.
