Yoshimi Rogetsu (Japanese, 1808-1909) ink on paper. The painting depicts Shoki, also known as the Demon Queller (Chinese: Zhong Kui). The painting has a signature and 2 seals. It is mounted on a backing with wooden dowels. Dimensions: 49 3/8 inches tall X 17 5/8 inches wide; 125.4 cm tall X 44.9 cm wide. All measurements are approximate. Condition: No noted damage. Provenance: From a collector in Bethesda, Maryland, by descent from his father, who lived overseas in China (Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Taipei) for 25 years and served as an executive for Air America, associated with the Flying Tigers and Civil Air Transport (CAT). He acquired much of his collection during this period and continued collecting from Sotheby's Parke Bernet after 1972 when he returned to the United States. Dowels have tags from the Jade Dragon gallery in Ann Arbor, MD.
