BOOK COVER WITH INSCRIPTIONS Wood gilt and partly painted, Tibet, 17th century Dimensions: Height 25 cm , Wide 74 cm , Depth 3 cm Weight: 3650 grams Wooden manuscript cover with three-banded decoration and a central motive depicting three main figures. The four-armed Shakyamuni holding a lotus flower and rosary seated on a throne framed by a gate with animals and deities. Two creatures are supporting the throne on the bottom and four deities sitting on thrones backed by aureoles also complement the piece on both sides. The motive on the left and right are composed in the same manner, but instead of Shakyamuni, Prajnaparamita on the left side is forming the dharmachakra mudra and holding a lotus bud and sutras, and a wrathful Mahakala to the right side holding a vajra and standing wide-legged. The background is decorated with repeating floral patterns. The sides of the book cover are also decorated with engravings. Faint traces of sanskrit writing can be found on the back.
