Maler des 17./ 18. Jahrhunderts
Painting couple
MUSIC
HOURS Oil on canvas.
46 x 38 cm and 45,5 x 38 cm.
In decorative inner frame, rounded at the top, in square gilded decorative frame.
The first painting shows a sitting lady in a shiny silver atlas dress with brown curly hair, holding a folded sheet of paper in her hands. She is sitting at a table, over which a heavy patterned brocade blanket lies and on which, next to a bowl of fruit, there is an opened music booklet and another booklet. Behind it sits an elegantly dressed gentleman with long hair, holding a lute in his hand and teaching it straight with his mouth slightly open. In his right hand he holds a rolled up sheet of paper. Behind him a long red curtain drawn to the right and a stone niche containing a sculpture that could be the robbery of Proserpina. On the left behind the seated person another elegantly dressed lady with a long reddish skirt and jacket, listening attentively to the words of the music teacher. To the left behind her, the view falls into a wide park landscape, in the light of the reddish setting sun. On the lower left, there is also a larger copper jug containing two earthenware jugs with lids.
The second painting probably shows the same woman in a shiny dress, sitting in a green-brown interior, with a large cello, which she holds by her legs and with her left hand on her shoulder. With her right hand she strokes the instrument with a bow, reading the notes from a sheet of paper that the music teacher behind her is holding out to her. Further music books and a small desk are on the table on the left side, which is covered with a valuable heavy brocade blanket. To the woman's right is a chair covered with green velvet and a boy holding a hat in his left and a violin slightly raised in his right. He looks with a sad look at the musician who is playing. On the wall in the background hangs a large square golden frame. Quality painting of the two lessons, with special emphasis on the instruments and the fine clothing. (1222357) (18)
