consisting of a vase-shaped clock and two lidded vases of the same design. The clock case in the form of a two-handled vase on a recessed foot, over a reddish square marble base, two levels with a moving leaf frieze over crushed ball feet. The dummy handles close fitting, in the shape of female caryatids. Below the dial, almost fully sculptured Hermes head with winged helmet and lateral fruit festoons. Dial inlaid in the front: white enamel with Roman hours, Arabic minutes and Arabic indication of the days of the month. The lid is raised twice with a crowning pine cone and a palmette ornament pierced in the wide, circumferential throat. The two smaller decorative vases are designed in the same way, but here the handles are shaped as volute arches, the front of the base is decorated with winged mascaron. The openworked lids refer to the use as a perfume brûle. The movement is built into the vase body, visible from behind through a vertically curved door. Probably fourteen-day movement, pendulum on thread suspension with knurled wheel, on the back in the movement box lock disc striking mechanism for half hour and hour strike on bell. Calendar function not tested. The bases are each made of Griotte Rouge marble. The bronzes in matte and bright gold plating. The walls of the accompanying vases are decorated with antique relief scenes.
Construction and design of the ensemble can be attributed to Claude Galle (1759-1815), who worked for the Garde-Meuble de la Couronne in the late Louis XVI era. He mainly supplied bronzes and candlesticks for the furniture of Fontainebleau, Saint-Claude and other ruling houses.
