IKKOSAI: A VERY FINE IVORY OJIME OF A MONKEY By ‘Saru Ikkosai’, unsigned Japan, Tokyo, second half of 19th century Finely carved and beautifully stained, depicting a monkey, his hands positioned so that he grabs the cord. Superb hairwork. HEIGHT 1.6 (!) cm Condition: Excellent condition. Provenance: French private collection. Literature comparison: For a similar example by Kaigyokusai Masatsugu see Sotheby’s, Fine Netsuke & Ojime from the H.G Beasley Collection, 1984, no. 186.
