21st-18th century BC. A bronze square seal with openwork design, accompanied by a typed and signed note by the late W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology, University of Birmingham, 1970-1993 which states: 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 60.5 x 60 x 19mm. This is roughly square, with flat face and flat back, on which is mounted a handle of inverted V-shape. The design is compartmented and partly open-work. It consists of a central oblong, on the sides of which begin four figures of somewhat Y-shape, but the upper arms going in zig-zag steps almost to the corners of the outer rim. A small triangle fills a space at the middle of each outer rim. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2100-1800 B.C. It is exceptionally large for its kind, and in fine condition, the metal having been conserved.' 79 grams, 60mm (2 1/4"). The Signo collection, the property of a West London businessman, formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s; collection number R-940, academically researched and catalogued by the late Professor Lambert in the early 1990s.
