Later 3rd millennium BC. A bronze discoid stamp seal with openwork central zoomorph and beaded rim; accompanied by an old scholarly note, typed and signed by W.G. Lambert, late Professor of Assyriology, University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which states: 'Stamp Seal of Bronze 62 x 61 x 25 mm. This is round, with scalloped edge, having flat face and flat back, on which a stout handle of inverted U-shape is mounted. The design, which is both compartmented and open-work, consists of a recumbent camel in the middle of plants rising above its back, the whole within a border of irregular shapes. The design is repeated in low relief on the back, with some graving. the outer band consisting of lumps. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-200 B.C. It is a rare, possibly unique design, and the seal is a large one, altogether an important piece. The metal is in good condition and has been conserved.' 68 grams, 61mm (2 1/2"). The Signo collection, the property of a West London businessman, formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s; collection number R-859; academically researched and catalogued by the late Professor Lambert in the early 1990s.
